Diptayan Ghosh best at 29th Hit Open 2025

GM Diptayan Ghosh scored an unbeaten 8/7 to win 29th Hit Open A (>1600) 2025. He finished a staggering one and a half point ahead of the rest. FM Dejan Omorjan (SRB), GM Matej Sebenik (SLO) and FM Rudi Olenik Campa (SLO) scored 6.5/9 each. They were placed second, third and fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. The top three prizes were €1000, €750 and €500 each. The eight-day nine-round Swiss League Rating Open tournament was organized by Chess club Nova Gorica, Slovenia at Perla, Resort & Entertainment in Nova Gorica, Slovenia from 24th to 31st January 2025. Top seed domination

The top seed of the tournament, GM Diptayan Ghosh was the sole leader 7/8, heading into the final round. He just needed a draw to become a clear champion. Still, he went for the maximum and defeated FM David Stevanic (SLO) to finish 1.5 points ahead. FM Dejan Omorjan (SRB) drew with FM Milan S Popovic (SRB) to secure second place. GM Matej Sebenik (SLO) won against Leonard Belyaletdinov (SLO) to be placed third. The total participation was 135, 91 in A (>1600) and 44 in B (<1699).

GM Jacek Stopa (POL, 2298) made the mistake of displacing his rook from the seventh rank 51...Rd1?? 52.Rc7+ Kg8 53.Kh5 Nh8 54.Bd4 Re1 55.Ng3 Bg7 56.Rd7 Nf7 57.Kg6 Nh8+ 58.Kf5 Rd1 59.Nh5 and GM Diptayan Ghosh (2569) won the game.

A total of 91 players including 9 GMs and an IM took part from 15 countries across the world in Category A (>1600). The eight-day nine-round Swiss League Rating Open tournament was organized by Chess club Nova Gorica, Slovenia at Perla, Resort & Entertainment in Nova Gorica, Slovenia from 24th to 31st January 2025. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
